The Best Used EVs Under €20k in Ireland (2026)

Buying your first electric car doesn't have to mean spending €40,000+. Ireland's used EV market has matured, and there are now genuinely great options for under €20,000. Here's where your money goes furthest.

What to look for in a used EV

Before chasing a bargain, check these three things on every listing:

  • Battery health — aim for 90%+ State of Health (SoH). A healthy battery is the single biggest factor in long-term value.
  • Real-world range — manufacturer figures are optimistic. Expect roughly 20–30% less in Irish winter conditions.
  • Charging connector — most modern EVs use CCS for fast charging. Older models may use CHAdeMO, which is becoming rarer.

Top picks under €20,000

Nissan Leaf (2019–2020)

The original mass-market EV. Reliable, cheap to run, and plentiful on the used market. Watch for battery degradation on early cars and note it uses the older CHAdeMO fast-charging standard.

Renault Zoe (2020+)

A small, efficient city car with a surprisingly usable range. The newer R135 models offer over 300km on paper. Check whether the battery is owned or leased.

Hyundai Ioniq Electric (2019+)

One of the most efficient EVs ever made — it sips energy, so your cost per kilometre is excellent. Comfortable and well-equipped for the money.

Final tips

Always ask the seller for a recent battery health report, and factor in the cost of a home charger if you don't already have one. A well-chosen used EV under €20k can save you thousands a year versus petrol or diesel.
